stopmotion animation final animation

Comic evaluation

Does the end product match your original intentions?
Yes my original intentions match my end product , the comic follows the story line and looks very similar to the story board.

Is the end product appropriate for your intended audience?
My target advice is the marvel and dc comic original fans so as my comic is very similar in style and content to them I believe it is appropriate. There is no  swearing but there is a bit of violence so I would say my comic isn't appropriate for anyone under the age of 16.

Discuss the technical & aesthetic aspects of your work and highlight the strengths / areas to develop
I think the strongest part of my comic is the humour and the background I creates on Photoshop. The only problem with my comic is that I didn’t  draw the images I just edited them.

Discuss the content / style of your work
I wanted my work to be in the style of marvel comics but also be funny

Did you encounter any problems when creating the product? If so how were they resolved?
I encountered a problem which was my drawing didn’t look enough like the marvel theme I was going for, so I decided to use images from marvel and edit them to remove any copy right issues.

What have you learnt from this experience?
I have expanded my skills on Photoshop further

Did you meet the deadline?
Yes I stuck to a strict schedule

If you had the opportunity to make this product again would you do anything different?
I would spend more time and try to create my own drawing with more detail.

Are you happy with the overall product?
Yes I am happy with my product it looks good and I believe it is amusing.

My comic

Final animation

This is my final animation video of my model room that i have made using the 3D max software.

i still think this video is too fast, but unfortunatly i dont have time to redo the video again.

First animation atempt

This is my first atempt of my animation. it didnt go exactly to plan. so i am going to redo the animation.

Improvements i would make to this are
  • Make it longer
  • Have smoother camera movements
  • Have more camera angles

This is an image i got online, i am going to edit it so that i can use it for my cartoon.

This is the edited version of woolverine i changed the body shape, skin colour and colour of suit.

Texturing and lighting my animation

Texturing:

To texture my model i used the material editor as apose to UVW unwrap this is because i didnt have enough time to do a UVW unwrap on all of the models on my animation. UVW unwrap alows you to apply textures much more accuratley and precicley, but i think the textures on my model look good for the time span i was given to crate the animation.

Lighting:

Their are 5 main different types of lighting on 3D max.
  • ambient light
  • omni lights that cast unfocused light in all directions
  • directional lights that cast parallel beams of light in one direction
  • target spotlights that cast a focused beam of light towards a target
  • free spotlights that cast a focused beam of light in a direction
For my anmation i used an omni to act as the main light for the room. i then used directional lights to add more refined lighting like for the bed side lamp of deask lamp.

Animation screen shots

Below are screen shots of my animation model, i added all thr things from the list i wanted to add and then i textured the model. I am now happy with my model and it is now reasdy to be animated . All textured where taken from the internet, i would of added one of the textures i have made in a work session with chris but none of the images suited the theme of the model.

Still to add to animation model

  • Mirror
  • Laptop
  • Add further lighting
  • Add textures
Then once the model is fully lighted and textured i will animate a camera for my animation. i will post my story board for my aniamtion in the next couple of days.

Animation work so far...

For my animation i am creating a bedroom, bellow are screen shots from 3d max.
i changed my initial idea of using my car model from a previous init because i wanted to make a new 3d max model to show my skills so far on the program , so i have decdided to do a first person view of a person walking into their bed room for my animation project.

Quick animation

Today i practiced animation usingn 3d max again this practice is helpfull as i am going to plan and create an animation with chris for my next unit. animation is done using key frames on the 3d max software and i saved the file as an AVI video file.

This is my plan for my animation for my next unit, it is going to incorperate the flying car i have created for a previous unit.i will use this plan to help me create my animation.

Thursday, 14 April 2011

today i learnt how to animate using 3D max , amimation on 3Dmax is done by moving a key frame on a time line and then moving an object light or camera, almost every single thing you creat on 3D max can be animated. below is a simple video render i did of a basket ball bouncing and a camera moving.
I aplyed this texture to my ball to make it look like a basketball.
To improve my animation i would have a spot light to create shadows on the ball and i would also add a squeeze to my ball when it hits the ground this will make the animation look more realistic, by adding real world physics.

Overview:

This is my final model. we where given an open criteria for this unit to create any type of transport we wanted, i decided to create a futuristic car inspired by lightning McQueen from the cars movie. I added wings to my car to add a futuristic element and also inserted a sky background onto a "plane" to simulate the car flying. I followed my planning when creating my car model and i am happy with the results, it looks very similar to my drawing in the plan and i think it looks good for my current skill on 3d max and the time i was given to plan and create the model.

Modeling:

To model my car i used my planning to help give me an insight into what my final model would look like this made modeling easier, to model i used a box and cloned it and used an "instance" this meant that i only had to model one side of my car. To add the spoiler i extruded the back of the car and for wheels i used a cylinder and extruded parts of the cylinder inwards to act as rims. For texturing i used a red colour for the main colour of the body , i then used white as a racing stripe. for the window i used a light blue colour and turned the opacity down slightly.

Reflection:

overall i am happy with my car and i believe it look very similar to my planning.
to improve my car i would like to have spent more time to texture my vehicle and adding lighting, as i spent most of my time modeling my car.

This is my icon applyed to the iphone home page this is how the icon would look in use,
i only created one icon due to time restrictions but i am happy with the one icon i have done, i think it is effective and serves its purpose well.

UVW mapping

To create a texture using photoshop, first i had to select UVW unwrap on the modifyer list this enabled me to unwrap my model . Once i had fully unwraped my model i did a print screen of the fully unwrapped model and inserted this on photoshop. Once i had done this i appled textures using photoshop textures and brushes. to apply it to 3D max i used the material editor then selected bitmat and selected my photoshop JPG image.

coridor lighting

today Chris gave us a tutorial on how to experiment using lighting in a corridor.
This is much like when i experimented with spotlights in my earlier post. Adding lights to a corridor simply required me to add spot lights. to create the corridor i used a box and removed the front and back polygons i also remover the top polygons, this gave me the basic corridor shape.
once i had my corridor shape i added 3 spot lights slightly above the top of the corridor, i then edited the lights to get the desired effect from them. for the corridor shown below i edited the lights to crate a creepy atmosphere in the corridor.

Introduction to lighting

Today chris showed us how to add lights on 3D max. lighting plays a big party in many games and helps to add tension and suspence and also effects the atmosphere of an environment.
In the game "Alan wake" light is one of the main forms of defence
.
Lighting also helps a to make a 3D model more realistic and adds another sence of dimention to the model by creating lighter and darker areas on the model also by adding shadows.

Below are 3 screen shots of lights i have experimented with i am just getting to know how to use lights at the moment i will experimetn further on 3D max at a later date.
So far i have only used spot lights and i will experiment with other lights such as omnis and skylights later.

                                           single light inverse beam faded
many lights various different beam intensities and light fade
box lighten by single full beam light
